Hi, Everybody! A short writing update from me during this hot, sticky July in Virginia. Just a few things to share…

New Poem Debuts
My new poem “Symmetry” just debuted in Star*Line Magazine in their Summer 2023 Issue (Volume 46, Issue 3). It’s a short poem about all the antimatter that’s supposed to be here, but isn’t. I always wondered if those realms of antimatter aren’t all around us, hiding in plain sight. With their own similar but different histories, empires, and laws of physics…
Anyway, it was great to see the poem appear on the same page as a talk the SFPA (SciFi Poetry Assoc.) President gave to a bunch of South American (Brazilian) students, since Borges (an Argentine) and other Latin American poets (Neruda, Dario, etc.) have been a HUGE influence on what I want to express in my poems.
Here are the first two lines of “Symmetry” to get you started:
Where time runs backward,
and cause and effect are reversed…
For the rest, you’ll have to go to the Star*Line Magazine website and order a copy. Good thing is, you’ll get a lot of other great science fiction poems in the bargain!
Now on Threads
I have no idea where all this social media stuff is going (does anyone?). But I have just joined Threads. You can find me there under the handle @DariusJonesWrit.
I will still be on Twitter (or is it X?) and Instagram at the same exact handle: @DariusJonesWrit. So, join me there for deep thoughts 😉 and some great pics!
Writing Update
Most of my writing this summer has been editing, editing, editing. I’ve also been working with my HWA mentor to sharpen my prose. We’ve been taking a deep dive into my stories and how to improve them.
I don’t have anything to share yet, but hope to later this year. For now, I’m the student. And I’m editing, polishing, and honing my stuff harder than ever.
All for now! I’m off to write…errrr… Edit! See ya!
